In Hebrews 2:3-4, the writer asks, “how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him, God also bearing witness both with signs and wonders, with various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to His own will? The salvation alluded to by the inspired writer is great because God is the architect of it. God had a plan in place before He laid the foundation of the world to save the crown of His creation. The apostle Paul underscored this idea in his letter to the saints in Ephesus, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He has made us accepted in the Beloved” (Eph. 1:3-6). Another reason salvation is great is because Jesus was the agent by which God’s redemptive plan was executed. The apostle John identified Jesus as “the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world” (Rev. 13:8). The redemption of the human family rested on the shoulders of God’s beloved Son. During His earthly ministry, Jesus emphasized His desire to fulfill His Father’s will in the realm of redemption. He said, “For I came down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me” (Jo. 6:38). Peter summed up the redemptive work of Jesus in these words, “knowing that you were not redeemed by corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. He indeed was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you who through Him believe in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God” (I Pet. 1:18-21). Yes, God’s salvation is great. Have you obeyed the gospel (Jo. 8:24; Lu. 13:3; Acts 8:37; 2:38)? If not, what is holding you back from enjoying the greatness of God’s salvation?
